Wireless RNA, building on almost two decades of telecommunications experience, traces its history back to the initiatives of Cimtel Telecommunications in the late 1990’s to provide solutions to the particular communications needs of retirement and long term care facilities.

Cimtel Telecommunications has been selling, installing and servicing a full range of business telephone systems since 1986, largely in small– to medium-sized businesses across a wide range of industries. In the late 1990’s, Cimtel installed a number of telephone systems in retirement homes in the greater Ottawa area.  During the course of these installations, senior sales representatives and technical staff perceived a pressing need for these facilities to have reliable, high-quality communications systems that worked together.

Many facilities had a wired telephone system and a wireless system, whether pagers or wireless telephones, but these systems did not communicate directly with each other or with the nurse call system.  It was clearly evident that integrating these systems would result in largely eliminating paging and holding delays as patients, nurses, physicians and staff would have direct and immediate communication among one another, whether on or off site.  Not only would this result in a more efficient operation, but one that would reduce paging and holding delays, resulting in faster response times and, therefore, provide a better quality of care.

Cimtel began consulting  with administrators and front-line nurses regarding their communications and needs and it researched various technologies, working closely with a number of leading telecom manufacturers to develop customized solutions to meet these needs.  It is from this initiative that Wireless RNA was born in 2001.

Today, Wireless RNA, drawing on 18 years of telecom experience, provides highly specialized communications systems, including nurse call, access control and security and wireless telephony, for retirement and long-term care facilities, including secure accommodation environments.  We work closely with our clients to custom design solutions to meet their particular circumstances, paying particular attention to efficiency, cost effectiveness and simplicity of use.
